Anyone who moved from "Democrats lost a slam dunk election lol" on Tuesday to "well Democrats didn't win big enough" today without mentioning the OVERWHELMING VOTER SUPPRESSION that Black and brown people had to overcome is not a serious person worth listening to.

yes, progressives needs to have a conversation about how to get the most out of this presidency, including a conversation about why progressive policies are passing in areas that went for trump.
but this 'neener neener Democrats suck' bullshit is such a waste of fucking time.

And there are folks on here who need to learn to criticize politicians and constituencies accurately rather than lazily referring to everyone they don't like as "*spit* liberals" or "shitlibs."
I still don't understand how that's supposed to be useful.
I still don't understand how that's supposed to be useful.
As in 2016, I don't understand the gloating about "barely won" or "couldn't even win" when both times the candidates won the popular vote by huge margins and the electoral college is racist nonsense that gives far too much power to tiny white states. What are you gloating about?
It's easy to tell who wants change and who just wants clout.
Folks are writing smart essays about how important it is to stay engaged and not to become complacent.
And then there are dipshits offering nothing but snide remarks about how "liberals" just want to go to brunch.

I'm sure a lot of folks wouldn't mind going to brunch. We've been locked in our houses for 8 fucking months.
This isn't the burn you think it is, for christ's sake.
Grow up.

Apparently, I need to spell it out:
Progressive policies are popular with racists. Racism is also popular with racists.
How do you sell progressive policies with racists without tacitly endorsing their racism thereby alienating people of color?

How do you sell progressive policies with racists without tacitly endorsing their racism thereby alienating people of color?
How do you sell progressive policies to people who think that pregnant people should be forced to carry pregnancies to term?
How many rights of vulnerable progressives are you willing to sell out for a "working class" coalition?
that's my question.
How many rights of vulnerable progressives are you willing to sell out for a "working class" coalition?
that's my question.
And given that i was repeatedly told that welcoming various truly horrible racist, misogynist, and transphobic people into the tent was important to building a working class coalition, I think it's a fair question.
For the people who are coming at me like I just said "don't criticize Democrats," will you please stop being so freaking disingenuous.
That's not what I'm saying and you know it.

I'm just going to leave this here. https://twitter.com/AngryBlackLady/status/1323887938631995395?s=20
i'm asking genuine questions about building a coalition with people who voted for white supremacy AND to expand Medicaid and I'm getting the predictable "you hate poor people" rejoinder.
good to know that some things stay the same.
foreclosure quips incoming, to be sure

One last thing:
Identity politics was developed by queer Black feminists and is rooted in queer Black feminist thought.
So I have to wonder what so many of you white leftists have against a political theory rooted in queer Black feminist thought.
Something to think about.

Anyway, continue yelling incoherently at me about things I didn't say... if you must.
But I really suggest reading the thread first so you don't look like such a wanker.
I'm muting this thread now.

It boggles my mind that I asked about how to build a coalition with racists without tacitly endorsing their racism—by which I mean eschewing telling them about themselves out of fear of alienating them—and people read that as “Imani thinks progressive policies are racist.”
To the extent people think I'm saying "we can't convince racist white people not to be racist which means we can't pass M4A or GND," not so.
I've said FOR YEARS, that the left needs to quit chasing white working class republican voters because *the left doesn't need them*.

I'm tired and I can see where people predisposed to think I'm an establishment democrat think i'm defending doing nothing because we can't stop racists from being racist.
That's not the case. I'm saying stop worry about them altogether. I've BEEN saying that. Check the tape. lol

So you can disagree with me about whether we need to be chasing after trump voters to talk about their feelings and where things went wrong, but can we quit it with the "she hates poor people" stuff.
it's palpably absurd.
