Let’s start out west, in Colorado.
Colorado voters passed a statewide initiative to create a paid family leave policy, making it the first state to do so via ballot initiative. (2/14) https://theintercept.com/2020/10/26/colorado-paid-family-leave-vote-ballot/

Voters in Colorado also passed a ballot initiative to raise taxes on tobacco & tobacco products to expand K-12 education funding and early learning. While we’re talking about early learning- wow what a big week
Multnomah County, OR voted to create a universal preschool program while raising teacher pay, & San Antonio, TX, increased funding for their preschool programs (and lots, LOTS more) (4/14) https://www.vox.com/2020/11/4/21536615/oregon-measure-26-214-preschool-results-portland-multnomah

Let’s look at OK next.
The country’s first out nonbinary elected official -- who’s also a Muslim & millenial -- was elected to Oklahoma's 88th district House seat. The fight for a better justice system will continue w/ @maureeturnerok (5/14) https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/11/05/non-binary-oklahoma-first-elected/?utm_campaign=wp_main&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter

But not everything from OK is… okay. State Question 805 did not pass- this would have reduced prison populations & invested in services.
Read @graduateisabel’s article on the implications the SQ would have had on Native women. (6/14) https://thenext100.org/whats-happening-to-our-native-women-in-oklahoma/

And while our justice system will stay a contender for the most punitive in the world, the ouster of pro-ICE sheriffs and cruel DAs + the scaling back of the war of drugs all represent real progress. (7/14) https://theappeal.org/politicalreport/criminal-justice-reform-2020-election-results/
But also- a person with a felony record was elected to the WA House for the first time in modern history! @TarraSimmons5’s leadership will help drive criminal justice reform & increase mental health services. (8/14) https://theappeal.org/tarra-simmons-washington-state-legislature/
On labor, let’s swing down South for a minute. Florida cleared the *60%* hurdle on its ballot initiative to raise the minimum wage to $15/hour- a huge win for #raisethewage. (9/14) https://twitter.com/fightfor15/status/1323814886653128704?s=20
But #Prop22’s passage in CA means that gig workers must now aim to build power at the ntnl level, as “a wholesale elimination of basic workers’ rights across an entire sector—has the potential to spread across the country and to other industries.” (10/14) https://onezero.medium.com/prop-22-where-do-gig-workers-go-from-here-e6eaa3ee2324
And finally, let’s talk climate.
Columbus, OH, and East Brunswick, NJ, voted to get their electricity from renewable sources rather than fossil fuels. (11/14) https://www.theverge.com/21549729/local-elections-results-renewable-energy-community-choice

Which brings us to our point: a LOT happened over the course of this week, and while everyone else is navel gazing and prognosticating about what this means for the future of nation, we’ll add our two cents as well: (12/14)
The youth vote turned OUT and youth ORGANIZING drove folks of every generation to the polls. The next generation has something to say and, in this election, we demanded to be heard. (13/14) https://www.teenvogue.com/story/youth-voter-turnout-2020-organizing
And progressive issues can win and win big across the country. From Oklahoma to California, there is an appetite for real change.
Let’s keep pushing forward for the causes we all know are right.
