Kamala Harris will be the first Vice President who doesn't share a last name with her spouse. Her spouse will be the first Second Man. Their relationship isn't a "traditional" one, but it is one that looks like a lot of modern American relationships.
And it will be just so great to see a woman who has steadfastly maintained her own identity in the White House.
Jill Biden will reportedly keep teaching, which will make her the first First Lady with a paid job. And the best part is, I don’t think anyone will bat an eye — same couldn’t be said if Hillary or Michelle had worked. Things have changed a lot, even in just eight years.
Part of it is probably age — Jill Biden doesn’t have kids at home. And part of it is definitely race — Michelle Obama was held to an absurd and always-changing standard and had to be so extra careful about making waves. But part of it is also that the country is more feminist.
