1/ Idle thought on "digital transformation" and "innovation" colliding with a William Gibson quote. Frequently in large orgs, people, practices, tools and processes that are the "right" ones are already happening/being communicated, just not joined up right/used strategically.
2/ in other words:

"The people, processes, tools and practices of digital are already here -- they're just not evenly distributed."

Focus on that. Not "innovation".
3/ in more detailed other words:

If you're in a large org, there are probably people who are, or want to be user-centered, outcome-driven, collaborative.

"Shadow IT" is employees using the tools they need (collaboration over process!) to get the job done.
4/ I know this isn't a stunning new revelation!

My hope is that the metaphor / rephrasing is helpful to people.

6/ More: increase alignment (does everyone know what we're doing, how, why?) and reducing conflicting approaches (or eg understanding why diff. approaches).

also, these problems are symptoms of siloed working https://twitter.com/jukevox/status/1324786222737350658?s=20
