I’m starting to notice the seeming lack of confidence among publishing hopefuls at the moment. I get emails from those wanting to contribute to The Post and who have so much to offer and are so passionate about publishing, but who sound so beaten down (1/8)
I have lost count the amount of emails exchanges I have had where an amazing hopeful has attached pieces of their work, or who has explained how their previous experience could be applied to The Post and then who has finished their email with something along the lines of (2/8)
“I understand if my experience may not be complete, but I am still learning...” and honestly - it makes me so so sad (3/8)
The job market is tough at the moment, we all know that. I'm sure when it comes to applications, they present their most confident and best selves but it is important to recognised the toll it takes. When you're working toward a job you have perhaps been aiming at for years (4/8)
It is really really hard to maintain a positive outlook, during a period of rejections and a global pandemic.

We are all still learning, you don’t leave school or university ready to take over the leading company in your dream sector?! (5/8)
The entire job market across all sectors is doing really well at reinforcing that ‘entry-level’ means 3+ years of experience, or reminding us that ‘1578 people have applied to this job’ and it is so hard at the moment to keep spirits high. (6/8)
Maybe we need to remember to take the time out to congratulate eachother on the work we are all achieving (because we are achieving A LOT), even if that doesn’t mean getting the job we are striving towards. (7/8)
Maybe it is more vital than ever to celebrate the success of that blog post, or to tell someone that you love their bookstagram feed, or that their review encouraged you to read a book! (8/8)
That was a whole lot of rambling from me but it's unfair not to talk about the hard parts if we are going to so openly celebrate success
I am also still very much a publishing hopeful and know how hard (/soul-destroying) it is at the moment! We will all get there but it’s nice to support eachother along the way💗
