I've talked before about us (all of us) talking about things we want to see from pols or candidates that actually happened or have been addressed. Ppl talking about Biden/Harris not having a plan addressing Black needs was one. This is another. He apologized last year.
And reiterated that it was a mistahe last month during a televised town hall.

(Mind you all I had to do here was Google "did Biden apologize for the crime bill" to pull these links. This ain't hard; I can only determine people don't want to learn they're wrong)
Now if you wanna say "Fuck his apology. Too little, too late," I get it. That's different than saying it didn't happen
Someone else told me they felt like the Biden campaign wasn't talking to Black people. I asked him if he'd watched any town halls, convos or followed him or Kamala on socials. He said he watched part of the debate.

How you know then? Were they supposed to text you?
This is moot for THIS election but I expect it to show back up in future elections, which is why I hope we can genuinely talk about it now: about confirmation bias, about lack of info sourcing and verifying, etc.
Bernie supporters at least knew. The VAWA was their go to talking point for why Bernie signed the bill - skipping over the fact that Biden wrote the act, too.

Annnnd, reporting puts blame for the bill's extremes on the right. Biden himself has never blamed Republicans since he led the bill, and I know we're not used to people not pointing fingers. Below is a USA Today breakdown:
(**Note the name of the republican platform, BTW.)
"The struggle over the bill was between conservatives who fought for stiffer punishment for criminals and ridiculed prevention programs — and liberals who condemned a failed policy of overzealous incarceration, and pushed instead for crime prevention programs"
"If Biden had had his way, the bill would have been far more oriented toward prevention and far less toward punishment. As early as 1990, with the nation’s homicide rate reaching close to historic levels, Biden talked of the three Ds — deadly weapons, drugs and demographics."
"Reflecting Biden’s influence, the final version of the crime bill included over $7 billion for a basket of prevention programs. However, once Republicans seized control of Congress following the 1994 midterm elections, it became more like a trash basket of prevention."
We gotta talk more about Newt, FYI. I'm gonna read @SteveKornacki's book about how Newt is basically responsible for the modern warfare between parties. I'm old enough to remember his bullshit when reminded.

But Biden and Kamala gonna have to talk some shit in office. Roll the humility back a little so we know what the fck is actually happening. It IS part marketing and messaging function, and Dems are horrible at it
This is bullshit, bc had he actually NEVER said anything, that's ALSO a problem. He expresses regret, it's disingenuous.
There's not room for public figures and definitely not pols to pivot. You can decide it's not enough, but we know it had to happen.

Y'all like to sit high and look low on these twitters.
Black people who were of age have said this until we are blue in the gotdamn face and these mugs even straight up tell us we're wrong bc of something they read, or that it doesn't matter. Context of era ALWAYS MATTERS.
