Our electoral process is incredibly messy. Everything from the nomination to the campaign to the election has been a Scheißshow. And a lot of things need to change.

But it’s better than the alternative.
The quietest, most orderly elections happen in countries where the outcome is preordained by powerful authorities, and dissent is quashed by threats of military and judicial reprisals.
Despite all of the infuriating nonsense, our country has time and again proved itself largely resilient — even to the worst, most despotic tendencies of its aspirants to power.
Our greatest democratic failures have come when we have abandoned principles of full-and-fair participation by demanding a premature return to order. Courage and patience amid the chaos seems the only path to a lasting democracy.
And a flawed but lasting democracy seems the only path to progress and justice.

Courage, friends. Patience, family.
