I find this ironically appropriate to post on social media but there are some strategies to discern fact from fiction on social media. This country is in a moment- no doubt about it. We have got to advocate that memes and screenshots shouldn’t count as verifiable evidence. ...
1. Determine the authenticity.
Did this post come from direct evidence such as an authentic video without audio editing, a legal document, or credible witness accounts? (I saw on Twitter.... doesn’t count.) What article did the screenshot or image come from?

2. Establish independence.
Is the post free of any self-interest? Would the person posting the information benefit from misinformation? If so, proceed with caution. If this person has a reason to be biased, then the information is going to have a slant.

con't: Was context removed to prove a side? (i.e what happened before this video and after that I’m not seeing? Where is the rest of the article? Where did you get these numbers?)
3. Look for logos, disclaimers, or objects.
Just because there is an “official” looking icon that would be a news logo doesn’t mean it’s reliable news. Is the post sponsored by a group or political party? Are there misspellings on the image? Probably not the best info for truth.

4. CHECK WHO IS BEHIND THE WORK.
Click on the Twitter handle, the Facebook user and look into their background. What do they typically post? Are they a bot? Can’t find who is behind it? Then, that’s a big problem!
Sincerely,
Someone who does this to everything you post
