Some of the discussion around LTNs seems based on the idea that there is a fixed amount of traffic, and that it's the responsibility of the council to accommodate it – or take the blame for any resulting congestion

But trying to accommodate everyone who wants to drive is an impossible task. The more space you give to cars, the easier you make driving – and the more driving you'll encourage

As a society, we need to decide how much of our precious public space to give over to motor vehicles. Then the amount of driving needs to adapt to fit the amount of road space – not the other way around
