I gave an old #TidyTuesday entry of mine a makeover! đź’…
I wanted to make better use of color to show the male/female ratio of each species in Animal Crossing ( #ACNH).

Code: https://github.com/monikered/tidytuesday-py/blob/master/code/2020_19_animalcrossing
Here's the original: https://twitter.com/emremjones/status/1260623807477362688?s=20
The colors in the original weren't doing much to show the proportional gender breakdown, which is what I wanted to focus on. So I ditched the stacked bars for a DIVERGENT color scheme. These are great for when you want to show how data deviate from a standard. #dataviz
The white in the middle of the divergent scale represents 50/50 gender parity. Now, you can see at a glance which species are male-dominant and which are female-dominant! Really happy with how this #TidyGlowup / #TidyTuesdayRemix turned out.
A two-color divergent scheme with white in the middle is also accessible to people with color vision deficiencies. In addition to some color theory, I learned about annotations (including how to make bendy arrows) and color maps in matplotlib.
