The US rejoins Paris. The Keystone pipeline dies. So do the Trump plans to log the Tongass Forest and drill in the Arctic refuge. Methane rules probably get reinstated fast. Other Trump eco-regulatory stuff a bit harder to undo but undoable. What else happens right away?
Some good responses: No more fossil leases on public land. CA approach to fuel efficiency. EOs for federal government to use more solar & EVs. Restore Bears Ear/Grand Staircase monuments. End financing of foreign fossil plants.
EPA will be interesting. Obviously will start rolling back the rollbacks for mercury, coal ash, wetlands, science, etc. Obviously a push on greenhouse gases but not obvious what form it takes. Not sure what happens with chemicals Trump approved - some less nasty than others!
The expert weighs in. https://twitter.com/eilperin/status/1324738366403993602 If @DonaldJTrumpJr really opposes the Pebble Mine maybe it gets vetoed before January 20...
Oh man I just got sent a wonky list with so many awesome obscure ones. Ban single-use plastic sales in national parks. New grazing rules on public lands. Resume payments to Green Climate Fund. OIRA reform!
More from one of my heroes on the re-regulatory agenda: https://twitter.com/ElizKolbert/status/1324740239806648320 A lot of the recommendations are to halt deregulatory processes that brave EPA staff presumably delayed long enough to keep from going final.
One more thought is that given the new Court it’s probably time for a different approach to carbon regulation. The Clean Power Plan is both inadequate and doomed.
