I've worked at agencies for nearly 5 years.

Sometimes working on projects is amazing

And sometimes it's a nightmare

Here's a few things I've learned about working at small agencies.

🧵👇
Deadlines deadlines deadlines

Unlike any other kind of work, deadlines are super prevalent in agency work.

Everyone is held accountable by someone, so deadlines are always a high priority even if they aren't actually important.
One project is never like another

Whether good or bad, you will always have a unique experience with every project

This means that there's always something new to learn

It's a great environment for personal growth
You'll wear many hats

Developer, designer, project manager? No matter your role you'll almost certainly have to get involved with something outside your role.

I've seen managers do manual testing, Web designers do video editing, and this is how I learned UX design
Great for mentorship & making friends.

Agencies typically have smaller teams working closely together.

This inevitably means that you get to know the people you're working with well, and them you.

And they'll typically take the time out to help you if you need it.
You'll struggle to gain deep knowledge of a topic

With a regular rotation of clients, it's much harder to get really stuck into a concept.

So if you're looking to become a master of one concept you might really struggle
