#SFF soldier of Nepali origin Lnc Havaldar Dil Bahadur Chhetri MVC who had killed 08 Pakistani soldier by his khukri in a major operation in Sylhet during '71 war handed over Rs 10 lacs by #IndianArmy Chief Gen MM Naravane today after found to be living in misery in #Nepal
In '71 war against #Pakistan Dil Bahadur Chhetri Battalion (4/5 Gorkha--Frontier Force) was part of advance towards Sylhet in erstwhile East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). His Battalion was given the specific task of clearing a well fortified MMG enemy post at Atgram.
Rifleman Dil Bahadur Chhetri (later Lnc Hav), with complete disregard to his personal safety, fought fearlessly, charged the bunker, killed eight enemy troops with his khukri and captured MMG post. For his conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, he was awarded Mahavir Chakra.
Braveheart had to quit service on his own request due to personal reasons before even reaching requisite pensionable service. He was discharged from service on 08 Apr 1976. Since then, he has been living a very modest life in a small remote village of Banke district in Nepal.
Life after quitting service filled with misery as had no major income and survived on gallantry award allowance. Due to introvert nature condition also never got highlighted. However case came to notice when one senior officer of his unit informed Defence Wing of @IndiaInNepal
Correction: Lnc Hav Dil Bahadur Chhetri didn't belong to #SFF but 4/5 GR which is also known as 'Frontier Force' as it had served for long time on Afgahn border during British era
