There truly are two Americas. But I don’t think it’s primarily Left vs Right or Black vs White. I think it’s gate-keepers vs gate-openers.
The gate-keepers have always had power and resources, and they work hard to defend their abundance from anyone who might want or need it. They love building walls. And if asked to open the gate, they would rather burn it all down than share what they believe is only for them.
The gate-openers are those who have experienced being shut out, but refuse the twin temptations of despair or revenge. Instead, they actively pursue just & love-empowered ways to throw the gates open. Each time they success, they use their success to empower others to join them.
Friends, I just watched this TED talk by the ultimate gate-opener, @StaceyAbrams, and cried multiple times. So freaking beautiful. May we follow her inspired example and keep opening wide the gates...
