I know I am getting ahead of myself but all of us - chattering class, media, etc - need to be prepared for what happens next. Votes need to be finalized and results validated, court challenges killed off etc. Those activities are the priority. HOWEVER...
We need to look at what happens next from the White House through the lens of the Trump end game. As it becomes clear that the electoral process will not save him, he will exhaust his legal options. Once those are gone, it is all about creating a political option to save his skin
His single biggest fear soon will be how to protect himself and his family from prosecution for criminal activity that preceded and followed 2016. Some of this is likely basic criminality, some of it could rise to the level of very serious crimes against the republic....
In this context, he will do everything he can to claim that all of it is “swamp” pursuing a political vendetta. His goal at this stage is to gin up his support to such a fervour that the next Administration will be reluctant to move with the speed required.
So, stay tuned for lots of incitement, overheated calls to violence and lots of recrimination. Also, don’t rule out pretty transparent looting of the US Treasury, deliberate worsening of the Covid response & serious national security breaches. It is critical the media be vigilant
