Trump true believers are going to have an apocalyptic moment. As the book When Prophesy Fails points out, instead of abandoning their beliefs, true believers tend to double down.
So we can expect Qanon and militia movements to get weird to an even more worrying extent.
Worse still, American liberalism is uniquely unqualified to address this, tending to treat fascism as a noxious political philosophy that must be tolerated.
Liberalism does not feel this way about socialism, though. The only thing the liberal establishment hates more than Trumpism is socialism.
They were already screaming at each other yesterday about socialism. I expect a concerted effort to clean house of leftism, using the runoffs as pretext.
It’s impossible to be precise with this, as American progressivism and American socialism are so closely twinned that to eliminate one is to eliminate both.
The desire to return to normalcy is going to be pernicious. Normalcy works for the white middle class. It doesn’t work for most of the people that actually provided this potential win for Biden.
Democratic centrists would rather chase imaginary Cuban votes that they will never get than actual progressive votes that they will lose.
