You can’t say things like, “Stacey Abrams/Black women will save us all” & then not fight with everything you have to change this country so that they can live, flourish, lead, & get paid for this work from positions of power. If they’re saving us, what are we doing for them?
Enough of thinking praising Black women on social media is enough. They continue to save everyone’s thankless asses and then get forgotten about again, have to fight for literal survival in this racist country. We need to change that, now.
From Stacey Abrams to every Black woman poll worker, campaign staffer, and voter, the rest of us owe them our work, vocal and visible support, and to ask what they need to thrive, and then we need to DO THAT. Work. Not fawning tweets we forget about tomorrow.
Black women are changing the political landscape and we as a whole continue to disrespect that work by dismissing it as a fluke or a miracle and letting everyone but those same Black women report on it, analyze it, and dominate political positions. Enough.
If you’re thanking Stacey Abrams for saving us, you also need to be thinking of how you personally can work to support and advance all the other potential Stacey Abramses out there. If you acknowledge they know what they’re doing, do everything you can to help them do it.
