Pennsylvania is at a place where if you had this exact vote count and distribution of outstanding ballots on 8pm Tuesday night, it would clearly be called but nobody wants to do it under these circumstances.
I understand why the networks, AP, and Decision Desk are playing it this way but everyone consuming the news should understand that genuine uncertainty about the outcome is not the reason.
Given Trump’s ongoing effort to cancel the vote-counting in Pennsylvania, the networks want to let the count play out rather than in effect “take sides” against a Trump campaign that is pretending these outstanding ballots are invalid.
It’s annoying to see it go down this way but the coverage of Trump’s bogus claims has been very solid and I think prudentially this is a good way to handle it. But Trump is cooked here even if Wasserman won’t say the words.
