Before I dive into the recovery process, let me give you a little background on shoulder anatomy.
As you can see in the image, our shoulder joint consists of the Humeral head (left side, blue) and the glenoid fossa (right side, blue)
And around the glenoid fossa, is the labrum

The Labrum acts like a socket, deepening the shallow concavity of the glenoid fossa. This is to increase stability of the shoulder joint and for the humeral head to have a better attachment towards the glenoid fossa.
In order to have a stable shoulder, you must have
In order to have a stable shoulder, you must have
proper muscle activation since, unlike other joints, the shoulder mainly relies on the muscles for it to be stable. With Yoongi's history of shoulder dislocation, his other muscles must have been compensating a lot while some muscles 'forget' to do their desired action.
Muscle compensation, activation and inactivation requires a lot of technicalities so I will skip this part. And a lot has happened since the accident that we have no knowledge of. Now, time to talk about the post-operative rehabilitation protocols
NOTE: No case is the same. This is just a generalized protocol from research based physical therapy managements.
Phase I (usually up to 3 weeks after surgery)
Goal is to protect the healing areas of the shoulder and make sure that all other joints that were not part of the surgery is moving. This is to avoid soft tissue adhesion and movement restrictions in the future.

Phase I (cont)
Shoulder should be immobilized in a sling to allow soft tissue healing fro about 6weeks (may not be worn but is recommended to avoid over-moving the joint)
Yoongi's shoulder movement will be limited at this phase to avoid tearing the operated site.

Phase I (cont)
No combined abduction and internal rotation of the shoulder (might reach up to 8 weeks depending on recovery state)
At this phase, Yoongi's physio should start by helping his shoulder muscles contract correctly using the basic movements of the shoulder one by one.

If he can't move his shoulder (due to pain after surgery) his physio will most likely do it for him just to avoid soft tissue adhesion.
He will most likely be given postural exercises to help in muscle movement relearning.

Phase II (usually 3-8 weeks post-op)
Goal is to achieve full range of motion in all movements of the shoulder.
Yoongi will most likely be given exercises for shoulder and scapular stabilizers in protected range (around 0-45 degrees of shoulder abduction)

Yoongi will also start to have muscle relearning program. This will consist on proper muscle firing and coordination. This is the fun part of the rehabilitation process since he has the opportunity to reset his 'wrong' movements prior to surgery.
Still, his postural training will continue and his sling should be worn most of the time.
After 6-8 weeks, he should be able to achieve full shoulder range of motions except internal rotation (to avoid stressing the operated site)

If his shoulder muscle strength is normal (graded 5/5, on all muscles) he will proceed to Phase III. If not, strengthening and other muscle activation activities will be done until we reach the progression criteria.
Phase III (usually 8 weeks post-op)
Goal is to have normal shoulder and scapular muscle muscle strength and have full active range of motion on the shoulder joint.
Yoongi's exercises will be progressed here depending on the style of his physio. He will most likely have

Yoongi's exercises will be progressed here depending on the style of his physio. He will most likely have
gradual strengthening exercises of his shoulder muscles combined with nueromuscular training. He will have muscle soreness which should last more than 24-48 hours.
Phase IV-V (usually 12 weeks post-op)
These phases will most likely focus on the lacking movements and muscle strength that were not met during phase III. Depending on hi s physio, extensive movement evaluation will be done to look for movement compensations and

Hopefully, no complications occur during his recovery. Let's all hope and pray for Yoongi's recovery.
