Memo from Lionsgate CEO with line "while the value and power of the stories we tell are stronger than ever, the significant change we are experiencing in the consumer and distribution landscape is not temporary or slowing down" says so much. #indiefilm https://www.screendaily.com/news/lionsgate-disney-implement-latest-hollywood-studio-lay-offs/5154692.article?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=US%20Daily%20Nov%206&utm_content=US%20Daily%20Nov%206+CID_c96c25e438fa008184daf2de5f02ce95&utm_source=Newsletter&utm_term=Lionsgate%20Disney%20implement%20latest%20Hollywood%20studio%20lay-offs
Welcome to the reason why we make movies. Indie filmmakers have been placing the story at the heart of everything they do for all their lives. Studios mostly put talent at the heart of what they did and what they could grab from a quick box office. Story came second.
The studios are as f**ked as Trump and with them go the big agencies who's sole focus became money first, story second. And with them go the actors earning insane amounts of money to run around in spandex.
Proof of this is my ability to now get a low budget movie to actors via agents that never even had the courtesy to return an email. However, I don't think this indie film amnesty with agents will last forever BUT they may all be out of business by the time we "go back to normal"
And the only people left standing will be those who were committed to the story first and making movies on low/ extremely low/ and no budgets.
