Kabul University was conceived in 1928, founded in 1932 and it saw expansion over the years. As a result of the Soviet and US struggle for influence on Afghanistan, Afghanistan was mostly beneficiary with both powers investing and carrying out different projects.
A good chunk, about $25 Million,of $300 Million US Aid received between 1952 to 1961 was spent on the Kabul University. Soviet Union spent about $600 Million in the same period on other projects.
It was in 1968 that Kabul university campus first became the scene of violent protested by the Soviet backed revolutionaries. As a result, Kabul university was closed for 6 months. It was the first time the university was closed.
That point onwards, the violence never ceased rather in creased in its intensity. The worst violence to date committed against students of Kabul were by the Soviet backed communists. Killed 57 students & faculty, & imprisoned 100s. Even used gunship helicopters against them.
Students of University and Schools were hounded and hunted down for days by the communist regime and their military machines.
Of 800 qualified teachers & staff at the Kabul university, post Communist coups & Soviet occupation:
- 45 were executed,
- 550 took refuge in the West,
- 25 stayed at Peshawar,

Ali Wazir and his comrades subscribe to the same ideology and worship the same people who killed and tortured students and faculty by the 100s in Pul-e-Charkhi prison.
