So many asking why the US does not use EVMs like India?

1. They do for in-person voting, but they have a paper trail even for EVM as a backup. EVMs may differ from state to state, but paper backup is a must for audit and backup in case EVM machine fails and erases votes .1/n
2. In addition, they allow mail-in ballots as well as absentee ballots from citizens living overseas, as they want all citizens to have equal opportunity to vote, including those who for whatever reason cannot or prefer not to (such as in a pandemic) vote in person. 2/n
3. All votes require ID verification. If someone uses a dead person's mail-in ballot, it will be caught in the counting process. If there is a doubt, the vote is set aside for double-checking. 3/n
4. Mail-in and absentee ballots are only accepted if postmarked no later than election day. No votes are accepted of postmarked after election day. 4/n
5. The ballot counters are bi-partisan (from both parties), and observers are also present from both parties. In addition, most major or large counting stations have a video live feed of the counting process, freely available to the public. 5/n
6. Even states and cities Trump is suing, are bi-partisan in managing elections. Pennsylvania has a Democrat Governor, but a Republican House and Senate. Philadelphia has a Republican Election Commissioner 6/n
7. Therefore before believing conspiracy theories and Trump's rants, get familiar with the facts. There is a logic to how things are done in the US. It is inclusive, and has worked for generations. Every vote matters. 7/n
8. Only difference this time is a rogue President who think he is an Emperor and can change the rules based on this whims, and does not understand, or does not want to understand, the basics of how elections work. The real danger to democracy in the US is @realDonaldTrump.
Finally, the American system wants to give every citizen a chance to vote, not just those who can physically make it to a voting station. And mail-in votes were mainly from Democrats because of the pandemic, and because Trump basically told his supporters to not vote by mail.
PS: Why can't we all move to voting thru the internet or on a phone app, if we can do banking etc on it? Because there is a chance the internet and phones can be hacked and votes erased or changed. The technology exists, especially in the US which invented smartphones!
