Here's the thing guys & gals: Biden was always going to win. At least since Trump lazily thought he was done protecting us from the virus when he faux-banned travel, mainly so he could call democrats hypocrites for thinking a loudly bigoted pig might have racist motives. (1)
Sure, we all hoped Democrats would sweep the land of all collaborationist filth in one fell swoop. But, as life is reminding us, that's not how fighting fascists works. (2)
To invoke Churchill, winning this election won't be the end. It won't even be the beginning of the end. But it will be, perhaps, the end of the beginning. It was always going to be like this. (3)
The election was close, so Trump says “there’s fraud- how could there not be if we were winning on election day and now dems are catching up.” (4)
BUT WE CANNOT AFFORD TO DELUDE OURSELVES. If dems had won by a landslide, Trump would have said “There’s fraud- how can the vote be this lop-sided when there is so much fervent support for me at rallies that are the biggest in the history of our country etc etc. (5)
So everything- EVERYTHING- that has happened and will happen until Biden is announced the victor is nothing more than prologue. After that, there will be a fascist assault, figuratively in right wing media, social media, and the courts, (6)
and literally, on the streets from the nucleus of white supremacists who have been “standing by” and a yet-to-be-determined amount of brain-washed fascists-in-denial john/jane Q armed members of the general public. (7)
Just like you hear political announcers talk about certain state counts or political developments as a “side show” to Biden reaching 270, what we must wake up to is that this ENTIRE ELECTION is a side-show to the insurgency that is coming next. (8)
We have some things in our favor, chief amongst which is that Trump and his flunkees are typically lazy, untalented, and unprepared. (9)
But they have advantages as well, chiefly their lack of shame, inhibition, mercy, and the kind of historical knowledge to know that they are risking their necks and not just their country club memberships. (10)
We can only hope that our leadership is prepared for this. But what we CAN control is our own mental preparedness. I hope things don’t get bad, but there is A BETTER THAN 50% CHANCE THAT THEY WILL. And I mean bad. Very, very bad. (11)
Last night, in his “F-you, democracy” speech, Trump noted that some of the vote counting disruptions had gotten a little violent and implied it was the fault of the counting process. (12)
This will be the opening tactic. Watching bad things happen, Trump will publicly shrug his shoulders, blame the victims, and encourage the assailants. Nothing new here. Just higher stakes, and the increased risk of bloody attacks that come from cornered, wounded animals. (13)
BE PREPARED, mentally, and otherwise. We cannot let fascists snuff out democracy in our own land on our watch. No matter what. (14, Fin).
