Frankly guys, I'm just a little taken aback on how you didn't know how horrible 40% of this country was?
I love (most) of y'all but not only do you buttercups need to buck up but you all need to be able to be better judges of character.
It's not about who hasn't done bad stuff---we all have. We all fall short of God's grace. We all have stuff we don't want others to find out about our true selves.
The difference is can someone truly change or do they sink deeper into the morass when they're not caught?
In some places being a Black woman renders you invisible. It's kind of like a super power.
I have sat in in places & heard folks of privilege detail some horrendous acts; both personal & professional.
They talk about their foolishness in front of me with no regret or a sense of shame. And why should they?
They deemed me a nobody. An object. Just like a piece of furniture with sentience. They literally didn't care if I heard the sh*t they were saying.
So yeah it doesn't surprise me that a portion of this country would back the play of a deranged con man.
The face that people show you vs. who they really are literally are two different things. Y'all have to get better at looking at the small but significant tells about a person's character.
Because not everybody has the advantage to listen a litany of misdeeds from complete strangers.
My friends, especially the ones who have known me for a significant amount of time, generally think I'm paranoid & judgmental.
And they do mean that in the best way possible.
I refer to myself as practical.
Normal human being *will* disappoint you. That's normal. What's not normal is having the tendencies of a sociopath.
Because if they acts like an a*shole to someone who can't fight back, what do you think what they're gonna do to you when you're standing in the way of what they want?
I get it money buys access & power.
And yes, I understand that every tribe/village/group needs defenders.
And yes, money helps the defenders defend. I get it.
But it seems that folks take the noble cause of being a defender as an excuse for showing the worst of themselves.
Kyle Rittenhouse was "defending" Kenosha & killed two people.
Some folks think questioning the police does means you're some type of anarchist intent on sowing discord.
How many people justified moving out a neighborhood when "too many of those peole" moved in as a way of defending or looking out for their family?
How many people do you know that ran to the suburbs "for the schools?"
These are some of the ways in my opinion that decency dies. Death by a thousand compromises.
And most of us accept these compromises until it becomes normal. We accept them until the real barbarism is exposed. By then it's too late.
Or another way I look at it is if the trucks came rolling down the street & Black folks were being rounded up, who could I run to who would hide me?
Sadly, that list which wasn't long to begin with, gets shorter & shorter with each passing day.
So instead of me mourning the loss of a relationship, I look at it as the true opening of my eyes. God gave all of us discernment. Now we can all separate the wheat from the chaff.
So don't be surprised that your work friend is a homophobe or that your parents voted for 45 or that your friend is a sexual harasser.
When you really sit & think about it, the signs were always there you just shook them off.
Ultimately, it's what you do with that information is the point.
But y'all have to stop acting shocked & appalled by things you deep down already knew were happening.
It's just gotten to the point that you can't ignore it anymore. #FIN #GoodMorning
