Feminism sees men as the ideal and says that women living up to that ideal even better than men—and men being excluded from it—is how it should go. It calls this empowerment for women because it believes men = power. Totally crap analysis.
Critical Race Theory does something similar. It lifts up white as the ideal and says that blacks shouldn't have to live up to, while excluding whites from it, and calls this empowerment because it sees white = power. The difference is that it asserts black = power just as crudely
Queer Theory does something similar too. It lifts up straight as the norm and says that queers shouldn't have to be acceptable, while excluding straights from it, and calls this empowerment because it sees straight = power. The difference is that it thinks queer subverts this.
