It sure would be dandy if Democrats could accept valid criticism of their party’s failure to meaningfully help the working class without getting all butthurt and turning it into whataboutism contest where they point out the that the GOP is worse

For too long the DNC platform has been “we’re not the other guys“. They have smugly demanded votes from people they have failed while offering nothing in return. And don’t get me started on how they’ve leaned on the Black and Latino vote for so long while ignoring their voices.
I used to be a conservative because I felt like Black people were being used by the Democratic Party. I came to realize I was right but that the Republicans weren’t any better. Now I’m someone who will often vote Democrat for harm reduction, not because I believe in the party.
I am by no means a Democrat, and I truly despise the way they’ve ignored their role in the rise of Trump’s America. The overt classism in their attacks on his supporters while failing to realize they never provided that person’s needs in the first place.
Some people who follow Trump are just straight up racists and fascists, yes. But growing up near a rural area I can’t tell you how many people I know who support him not because they like him personally or because they hate minorities, but because they were desperate for change
Was trump the right way to go to seek that change? Of course not. He’s a con man who doesn’t care about these people. But his success is in tapping into their feeling that nobody else does either, and playing on their hopes that this will be different.
So yes we must denounce Trumpism in the most uncompromising of terms, but the work doesn’t stop there. We also have to offer up something better.
We have to actually listen to people and serve their needs instead of party interests. And for goodness sake we have to stop shaming people for not blindly kissing the feet of the DNC just for not being full-blown fascists
