THIS IS NOT A CANCEL TWEET: @AustinOnTwitter I think a lot of us, despite the fact that we know it's a joke, think that the bit with bob7 has gone too far. It's okay to joke, and make a bit. But the butt of the joke shouldn't be putting down marginalized groups. 1/
You can joke all you want. But when the line between persona, bit, and the person's character becomes so blurred, it becomes less of a joke and less funny for the people who are the topic of the joke. And when ALL the jokes are about minorities, 2/
Again, those of us who are the bit? It's no longer funny. Not because we're being joked about, or the joke involves us. But because the joke is putting us DOWN. I don't know bob7. I don't think I'll ever know the person beyond the screen. 3/
So I can't speak for his character, and again, I'm not "cancelling" him. It was just genuinely disappointing and upsetting to see the bit go so far. Those jokes are the disturbing reality for many of us. It becomes tiring to be the butt of the joke. It becomes concerning 4/
When the jokes don't surround us, or mock common tropes, but are belittling, humiliating, or in the case of his comments regarding body types, just gross. Good jokes are something that you can laugh along too when you're part of the joke 5/
But when you feel humiliated or mocked, it's gone too far. For example, you can make all the jokes you want about gay people. People joke all the time. And I can laugh with them, I know it's lighthearted. Jokes rooted in homophobia are harder to laugh with. 6/
I'm sorry to make this so long, and I know you're not responsible for the character. I just hope that maybe someone will maybe tell him to tone it down on the show, because it can make it hard to watch. I enjoy your content and would like to keep watching it. Have a good one <3
