For my Trekkies that hate the themes of war, I admonish you to get real.

The Federation is benevolent, but in the galaxy there are foes that are the anthessis of certain core values it staged true to.
The Borg for example forcibly assimilate different species into their 1 hive mind in the name of perfection.

The same is done with the Federation-minus the force, and just never fully reaching perfection because of individuality among difference.
The Dominion were similar in their aims.

War and the fighting for certain ideals you believe to be true can be seen as evil from a different perspective and inevitably leads to war!
I like a realistic Star Trek. Not all this Goo Goo Ga Ga perfection that a certain sect of favs love to see.
