This is what TV shows DO WHEN THEY'RE DOING SOMETHING MAJOR. The surprise is EVERYTHING. So it seemed super sus that they were all just TELLING US flat out that this was Cas' last episode. They have Fucking contracts to not talk about that shit SO WHY THIS
BECAUSE it's a giant MISDIRECT. They all talked about it. All of them got emotional. JENSEN SAYING HE WASN'T SURE ABOUT THE ENDING AT FIRST. There's so many CLUES. Because they're trying so hard to hide something. Let's be real!! Did Cas' 'death' just then feel final?
Dean didn't say ANYTHING. He didn't say goodbye. Cas said what he needed to and Peaced out. If it was real and FINAL. He would have said something, ANYTHING back. Maybe not ILY. But it would have been more for full emotional impact. But instead CAS RAN OUT OF MINUTES.
This is EXACTLY all the fic we've been writing since Cas made the deal. We've been FEELING the literary symmetry of how a good story works and flows. This was Fucking PROFOUND. The handprint was INTENTIONAL. The ending of a show is always a chess match.
It a audience vs creators. They want to make us feel, they want to kill us, but they also want to go down in history. I've always been huge on the side of, if it goes fully undeniably canon, it won't be until the very END. That way any alienating they would do is minimal
AND. BIG AND. They have the full amount of time to get the best part just right. THE PINING. THE ANGST. Spn has been the slowest of slow burns. A lot of us LOVE that shit. Because it matters, and it feels more powerful than anything that's just EASY.
We've had FIFTEEN YEARS to beat back the stereotypes, to transcend. When this show started Don't Ask Don't Tell was still in place. This was a show geared at men who liked muscle cars, rock music, and guns. The world evolved, some chance things happened, and we're here.
This isn't the end of their story. This IS the story. The book isn't closed. The monster is still at the end of the book. But after that:
