And now for something completely different.

Yesterday, this happened: https://twitter.com/_Peter_Cook/status/1323969940446216193
What was "this?" This was a colonoscopy. I'm 48 years old, so that's a bit young for one, but colon cancer is in my family history, so my primary care doctor decided it was time, and I'm glad he did.
Yesterday, I had a colonoscopy. The doctor found a polyp and removed it. Today, they told me it was benign, but I have to go back in for the same test in three years, which is early.
In medical terms, I had a 'non-cancerous tubular adenoma.' This type of polyp can become cancerous. The only reason I know that, now, is because I had the test I didn't want to take.
I did take the test, and now I know two things: 1: I don't have cancer. 2: My body tends to grow things that can become cancer
My grandmother died of cancer that started in her colon and spread. I don't want that cancer.
I dreaded the test, but I'm glad I went in for a colonoscopy. It's an important early warning system. The worst part is the prep. You will have to take weapons-level laxatives and they will make you feel like you are passing everything you've ever eaten.
His description of the actual procedure is accurate. Basically it's this: check in, go into a room where you change into a hospital gown and get an IV. Go into another room and lay down. Fall asleep. Wake up in a different room.
I remember nothing about the actual procedure except feeling woozy right before I fell asleep and feeling annoyed when the nurse called my name to wake me up, because that was some great sleep.
Anyway, what I'm saying is if you're nearing or at the age when you remember flipping tapes from one side to the other while listening to music on a Walkman, get tested. Let's face it, Gen X, we are officially middle aged.
