Today @dallasschools released data about the disparate impacts of COVID on communities of color specifically, Black and Brown students with Black students being the most impacted. (Thread below)
I am doing research on the history of Black schools in Dallas and close analysis of their inception, leaders and stories. This article I found in Dallas news today about the flu of 1959 is timely with the news of 2020, COVID and schools.
Headline: flu keeping pupils out of school.
Here is the devastating part.
Schools with percentage of absences of 20% or higher had to report numbers to the district. Of the eight schools that reported numbers of 20% or higher, SIX were Black. 6/8 schools impacted by this flu were BLACK. Now fast forward to 2020. @dallasschools
