This is an interesting thread because it challenges what I’ve been thinking about the past few days re: white liberals’ responsibility to challenge white supremacy. I question the assertion that rural white Americans are largely incapable of changing. They are racist and they are heavily invested in white supremacy — but if their concerns as communities of largely blue collar workers were properly addressed they might be easier to reach.
I’m not saying they’re justified in their racism. Far from it. But what we’ve been doing is not working. We are not seeing change, just deeper divides. So what do we do? What’s the answer?
