CNN is complicit in spreading misinformation by continuing to carry it
Kudos to MSNBC for cutting away so quickly, but given that everyone knew exactly what would happen, they shouldn't have carried it from the start either.
It's been FOUR YEARS. News networks know full well what to expect. If you're still carrying the president live - especially given what's going on right now and what you're going to encourage by doing so - you're not acting responsibly as a news organization.
"We knew he was going to do this," Tapper says here as he criticizes what he just saw.

If you knew he was going to do it, and the "it" is harmful to the public, don't air it live and then shake your head at it afterwards. https://twitter.com/_MarcusD3_/status/1324503486827036672
This is why we're here and why we've been here for four years. He's president in part because he realized he could say anything he damn well pleased and the networks would happily air it live because people watched.

There comes a point when you have to realize it's doing harm.
We're way past that point. So many people have needlessly gotten sick and died because the networks gladly and knowingly let him call the virus a hoax on live TV.

Now we know he's going to undermine democracy and spread election misinformation that could endanger more. And yet.
The argument that "anything the president says is news" has been demolished by this one, and he's been demolishing it for 4 years.

It is not news simply because the president speaks, especially if every single person on Earth knows he's going to do a disservice to the public.
News orgs have a moral obligation to serve the public.

The reason you cut away from a press conference 30 seconds into it is the same reason you shouldn't have started taking it live in the first place.
Even Twitter (!) and Facebook (!) have started actively flagging election misinformation, but of course the president knows he can always rely on the networks, who will roll out the red carpet for him while being fully aware that he'll spout lies that could incite violence.
