For a decade, Ohioans have been denied any real form of political representation that reflects how we feel about any number of issues because of our gerrymandered maps.
That will still be true after the 2020 election results are finalized and we go into new legislative sessions.

In ten years, the GOP walked away with 75% of our congressional delegation even though they only win about half of the votes.
In the legislature they enjoy supermajorities no matter how well Dems perform.
Their gerrymandering master plan worked out just the way they planned it.

To be clear - the GOP enjoys supermajorities not because that’s how much support they’re winning at the ballot box, but because they cheated during the 2011 redistricting process when they drew our maps.
That’s not how democracy should work.

What’s that get us?
Legislators and congressional members who don’t actually reflect Ohio’s values, whom we can’t hold accountable, and an inability to elect representatives of our choosing.
Our political power is diluted & our right to adequate representation is diminished.

You wouldn’t know it from our legislature, but Ohioans overwhelmingly support access to reproductive healthcare and rights, acting on climate change, preventing gun violence, expanding equality, and protecting our democracy.
We deserve legislative bodies that reflect that.
We deserve legislative bodies that reflect that.
But here’s the good news - we finally have a shot at getting Ohio #FairMaps thanks to:
1. Redistricting reforms that will help safeguard against the most egregious forms of gerrymandering
2. Ohio Supreme Court justices who will uphold a fair process
3. All of you.

Our reform measures mean our redistricting process will be more transparent and more inclusive than it was a decade ago. The new rules will forbid the worst kind of cracking and packing that we see on our current maps.
But the reforms alone won’t deliver us #FairMaps.

We’ll need accountability to ensure that the process & our maps live up to the promise of the reform measures that we overwhelmingly supported.
One piece of that will come from the Ohio Supreme Court upholding the new rules and overturning bad maps.

It’s going to take an incredible amount of public pressure to push our map drawers (state legislators and Redistricting Commission members) to live up to the promise of a fair redistricting process and to deliver us #FairMaps.
This is an all hands on deck moment and we need you.

So, take a much-deserved nap and then get ready for a fight for the fate of our democracy here in Ohio.
