I’m seeing some tweets in #ClassicsTwitter that seem to suggest some are concerned with the handling of the RS allegations over the past few days and... I have some things to say.

I realize many of my followers don’t live in this world, but I do, so bare with me.
Some people seem concerned about the so-called “cancelling” of Ryan after these serious allegations (which I undoubtedly believe) of sexual harassment and a general abuse of power dynamics/platform, etc.

One thing not enough people are mentioning is:

Ryan left on his own.
No one forced him off, he left before more of the allegations and came to light, before most of the tweets had even been tweeted. He didn’t really apologize, just tried to turn himself into a victim, and he left. He didn’t try to stay here to explain or make any sort of amends.
To me it seems like he decided to just be done with it all rather than even try to address his actions and the people he abused and hurt, the people he pushed off the platform with his actions, the people whose voices were stifled as he pretended to be raising them up.
It’s an extra level of manipulation, publicly being this endlessly helpful and supportive podcaster just here to support the little guys. He touted his interviews with women in a way that sought praise. Meanwhile, he was entirely abusing that role and gaslighting those he hurt.
I was quite friendly with him, we’ve had a lot of contact and did some work together. When I started out, he supported me here too, me and my staunchly feminist, believe women and denounce even mythological abusers podcast. The level of gaslighting is unbelievable.
From what I’ve seen, no one has tried to cancel him, to do anything but voice their experiences and seek support and understanding from this community.

It’s important that these things come out. When they don’t, women continue to be abused, to leave their fields, to give up.
As someone who was helped by him, who was friendly with him, who didn’t really see this coming (even though in hindsight I feel I should have), good riddance.

Don’t try to blame the people who spoke up for his so-called cancelling, he left without even an attempt to stay.
It’s important to understand the level of manipulation he engaged in.

He sent messages with inappropriate pictures **on Xmas** and made receivers feel they’d be wrong to be upset because if was a “mistake”. He sent more gross messages with the same intention.

It was predatory.
