Previous research showed that men are dying from COVID in much higher numbers vs women. Possible reasons: biological differences,
smoking & reluctance to seek care

But this study suggests another reason men may be at higher risk: a more cavalier + macho attitude toward COVID & a refusal to abide by public health rules.
For every 10 women hospitalized or killed by COVID:
o 12 men are hospitalized
o 18 men are admitted to ICUs
o 14 men die

Conclusion: Since men wear masks less frequently, they are *transmitting* the virus and *dying* more frequently.
Public health messaging should target men differently than women. i.e. masks aren't 'unmanly', they're lifesaving.
