As a Toronto MP, and a mother of children back at school in Toronto, I fully support the extension of lockdown restrictions in Toronto by another week.
As we look at how the virus is raging in Europe, and the extremely harsh measures needed there now to contain it, I am glad Toronto is keeping targeted restrictions in place to help us avoid such draconian steps -- and to help us keep our children in school.
I know these restrictions are difficult for many Toronto businesses. That is why we working very hard to extend the wage subsidy, create a new rent subsidy, and provide extra lockdown support.
Our new legislation will mean that businesses subject to local lockdown restrictions will get government support for 90 percent of their rent and 65 percent of their wage costs. We have been there for businesses and we will continue to be there for them.
We continue to call on all Parliamentarians to work with us in the spirit of #TeamCanada and pass the legislation before the House so we can get this support to small business owners across the country.
