Obama embracing this poster was a horrible, horrible mistake. I was mortified at this poster. So many young people had no inkling that it was in fact a HUGE TRIGGER for anyone who survived a totalitarian regime.

The residual fears of such folks who escaped Cuba & Venezuela is preyed upon by the right wing noise machine.

And things like Bernie spending time at a primary debate singing the praises of Fidel Castro’s “literacy program” (it was a PROPAGANDA program!) confirm those fears.

Andy Warhol did a lot of work based on the giant paintings of Chairman Mao. Until I was nine years old, China was a totalitarian state, & his portrait was EVERYWHERE in China. HUGE portraits. And Obama knew that. But his ego loved that painting too much to do the sensible thing.
