The two party system lead us into this pit, and it can't get us out. The horse race is a race to the bottom, and we all lose together.
Sadly, voting third party doesn't help because of the way the math of first past the post voting models impact outcomes.

We need to build a coalition of people who disagree with each other toward election reform as well as anticorruption, antibribery legislation.
And, we need to start this process at the state and local level.
Millions of us held our nose to vote for Democrats while millions of others held their nose to vote Republican.
Why are social conservatives and libertarians lashed together every cycle? Or moderate liberals with progressives with leftists? The two party system demolishes our ability to build consensus when out interests align, while driving an artificial polarization.
Don't hear me wrong: substantial disagreements exist on existential policy matters. Those aren't going anywhere. But, there's a lot of stuff that I as a progressive, could partner with a libertarian party on.
