Most people giving advice about how to get a job probably wouldn't be able to get a job in the current climate using their own advice at the skill level they started at bc almost always their memory is from 5+ years ago

This is also why I rarely answer questions about how to "break in" or get a job at places bc my experience and situation is not theirs. I might give advice on what *I* hire for, but many others don't do it the same way (a lot, in fact)
The level that we ask people to show work on their own time and to high standards of understanding is a symptom of an industry that refuses to train people and instead expects them to know how things work at the start
