In which I peeve everyone because I'm awesome like that. I've stopped reading whatever is going on. I don't care about the lawsuits. I don't care about the vote totals and oh these were found and tee hee hee look at our adorable volunteers forgetting to hit upload omg so cute!
No matter who wins, the result is tainted. I won't believe it if Trump wins. I won't believe it if Biden wins. I won't believe it because all of this is unbelievable. And inevitable. Systems stress to failure and the system has failed. We're talking this level of failure.
This has been decades in the making. Decades. Sure, let's start with Nixon and JFK and 1960 and WV because we have to start somewhere but it's not like vote counting shenanigans are anything new. The jokes about voting in Chicago are Borscht Belt era old.
The thing is that systems will tolerate stresses at the margins. Romney not getting any votes in 59 precincts in Philadelphia? Come on, that's ludicrous but hand wave hand wave it's not like it matters. Roll that back as far as you want in pick a state and an election.
But as the systems stress at the margins, the margins begin to eat towards the center. And the stress on the system begins to multiply. That multiplication is often invisible but it is still there. And thus the stressors move ever closer to complete failure and then BOOM.
The failure isn't sudden. It was the inevitable result of refusal to look at the system and deal with the problems therein. Here's where I piss off everyone. Spare me the BUT BUT THE DEMOCRATS! THOSE RACIST REPUBLICANS SUPPRESSING THE VOTE! VRA! CONSENT ORDERS! Spare. Me.
The blame, and blame must be placed, is extensive and is lain at the feet of both Democrats and Republicans. All the recounts break one way is not just a statistical anomaly. Those precincts with other 100% voter turnout? That's not cute and adorable. It's fraud.
The refusal to put teeth into laws requiring states to clean up voter rolls? That is complete, utter, pathetic, and total cravenness by politicians who want to claim to have done something without having to, you know, actually take a stand and do something.
I'm only going to make vague hand gestures, and you know the ones I mean, at the press for the cats being swung around by their tails caterwauling about all those racists who says hey maybe all those snowbirds shouldn't be registered to vote in two states.
If anyone ever dares mention you know what, maybe we should be sure dead people and those who haven't lived here in 30 years are off the voter rolls they are yelled at for being a racisty racist voter suppressing racist. And elected Republicans do nothing other than nod along.
Decades. This has been going on for decades. Now I'm foaming at the mouth about the utter disaster that military ballots are every election and that is inexcusable. Utterly inexcusable and it happens every time no matter what party is in charge.
Yes, this is absolutely and utterly a problem of the elected class. The specific problems may differ per flavor of official but that is all. I and others have screamed about how at some point the system will cave for decades and here we are. Here we are.
This really has nothing to do with Biden and Trump themselves. They happened to be the straws but it was going to happen at some point. And I see no way through for restoring faith in the process because those in charge are lying that the process is broken fundamentally.
Here's the choice: either it is fraud for the precincts to not hit the upload button on votes or it is catastrophic incompetence. I will allow a dash of healing power of and. Alright. Who will be held responsible for this. Who? Any actual human being? We all know the answer.
If there are not, and there won't be, in depth investigations as to why the states proved themselves to be utterly unable to complete what is, in the end, a fairly straightforward task, then no one, I don't care what your party is, should believe the system again.
As I keep whinging, this was all inevitable. All the people screaming about how every vote should be counted are the same ones who think that True The Vote deserved everything that the IRS did to it and more.
All the elected officials who made the mouth noises about how the voter roles must be purged and election integrity and then did absolutely nothing to make sure voter roles were, in fact, purged because it benefited them politically are responsible for where we are.
I have nothing but sheer and open loathing for the press so I have nothing more to say there. Any chance the press had to redeem even the slightest credibility is gone beyond all hope of redemption. And deservedly so.
The system failed because, in the end, it benefited those in power on all sides to pretend the system was just fine. And here we are. Here we are. It will all burn and I shall make s'mores whilst smugging I told you so. I told you so. May God have mercy on my soul.
