Last night, watching news footage of the election, I was struck by just how incredible , and fragile, our democracy really is
Poll workers labored late into the night, while protesters took to the streets, some chanting “count every vote” and others demanding “stop the vote.”
It was more clear than ever that democracy isn’t something we get to enjoy by default as Americans. Democracy is something we must continually choose, work for, and protect—so much so that we care more about preserving it than about winning.
And yet the president himself now sits in the White House throwing shade on the entire electoral process
There are plenty of reasons why Trump isn’t fit to be president. But the most fundamental disqualification has to be his pernicious undermining of the democratic process. He is undemocratic. Policies matter, but they don’t matter if we don’t maintain our democracy.
