Let's start off with REDFORK. Any fans of horror (be it Psychological, Creature, or Cosmic) will want to jump on this one. @AlexPaknadel writes a story that assaults the mind, heart, and guts all at once.
I'm especially excited for people to (re)discover the art of my bear-brother-from-another-mother @nilvendrell . If you recall his incredible work from SHIRTLESS BEAR-FIGHTER! then get ready to see a whole new side of him in REDFORK. Just look at this!
REDFORK colors by the incomparable Giulia Brusco whom @TKOpresents readers will remember from her colors for both GOODNIGHT PARADISE and THE 7 DEADLY SINS. Just an incredible talent, hard worker, & lovely person.
Next up, THE PULL. It's apocalyptic chocolate meet comics peanut butter. The perfect pairing and I think some of the best work, if not THE best, of everyone involved. Relentless greatness.
I don't think my heart rate ever went below "blast beat" when working on THE PULL. It's a comic with such a relentless pace and energy you'll get a workout in just reading it. Look at the fury @RLopezOrtiz & @Treestumped & @thomasmauer manage to fit into just ONE PANEL.
But they nail those quiet moments just as hard. @thesteveorlando knows to build in those peaks and valleys. THE PULL is the full package. I really can't wait for people to read this one.
(Cobbling this thread together on the fly so bear with me. Some images are from lower-res proofs for easy tweeting but I've seen printed copies and everything looks razor sharp. You'll cut your eyeballs on these comics!)
You know who doesn't get enough respect around here? WEREWOLVES, that's who! But @SteveNiles @SzymonKudranski & @thomasmauer are here to change all that with LONESOME DAYS, SAVAGE NIGHTS. A supernatural noir thriller here to paint the town red.
Steve @SteveNiles needs no introduction, he's a comic veteran of many years and many more series. Ditto @SzymonKudranski . And like Werewolves and full moons they go GREAT together. Instant monster magic!
On top of all this @TKOpresents is also excited to launch the first of a series of one-off short story comics, TKO SHORTS. We're rolling out 3 starting next week with more planned (and banked) for not-too-long after.
Leading the pack is SEEDS OF EDEN by @lianakangas @JoeCorallo writing, full art by @paulazaceta (!!) & letters by @jeffcpowell . Ecological Space Horror. It's what you want in your life right now!
And when I say "full art" by @paulazaceta I "Holy freaking dingbats, look at this artwork." Clearly the man is a genius.
Fun Fact: @paulazaceta was one of the very first artists I worked with as a blushing assistant editor at Marvel and we worked on what I maintain is the most hilariously violent comic I've yet been involved with called "Foolkiller MAX".
There's a scene where Foolkiller (I guess he kills people?) swings from a ropelike Tarzan and uses his walking stick katana to slice off the heads of like a dozen racists militia dudes.
And @paulazaceta drew this scene with such aplomb it forever stuck in my mind: the decapitated heads went "pop pop pop" like Dandelion flower tops. That's when I knew I was in love.
Next up is NIGHT TRAIN by @steve_foxe , @LEstherren Patricio Delpeche & @swands . This one really really creeps me out!
It's not just that @steve_foxe wrote a tale that is equal parts relatable and deeply upsetting, it's @LEstherren & Patricio delivering mood and atmosphere so thick it kind of renders you helpless to the creeping realization of what's going on. Deeelicious.
(Not for nothing, but I just realized how much work we put into these projects that all wrapped in 2020, a challenging and devastating year by anyone's estimate. Just to give a shoutout to anyone who got some comics work done this year. We love you and we see you.)
Aaand speaking of love and praise (ahem) I wrote a short too! But really it's @baldemar_rivas who is the star of THE FATHER OF ALL THINGS, a little slice of trench warfare horror I'd been stewing up for some time and Baldemar absolutely crushed.
It's hard not to spoil things from short comics, but here's just a taste of @baldemar_rivas & @swands wonderful fusion.
As an aside, as an editor, I'm really excited for the @TKOpresents shorts because they offer such a wide, new range of opportunities for artists, stories, and styles, both writing and art. Check 'em out, we have lots more to unveil soon, and we want to make many many more!
