it surprises me more people don't talk about these lines? how bonkers it is that akechi's identity is SO NOT hidden that fans have found his past. the way she talks about it makes it sound like a profile on a fansite, so jiminluver8 googled goro akechi on a database and got this
but also i think they're neat because you find out his past literally the day after meeting him. like. in game. narratively, you find out his past from some gossipy fangirl who googled him and saw it. and what's interesting, too, is her reaction?
she treats him more or less how he doesn't want to be treated: a heroic sob story. just really amazing, look at that little orphan boy go. of course we don't know enough about her to judge how she meant it but "feel-good" stories are very popular and the framing makes him one
it's interesting because right after meeting him, you actually get to see what he DOESN'T want to happen. he hates pity. he doesn't want to be a feel good story. he doesn't want to be amazing BECAUSE he was a poor orphan. he thinks that will happen if people know. and it does
but it's also interesting because it tells you just how out of his depth he was when he first started. no back-ups, no long term thinking, just the thought that his powers would be enough to give him the upper hand. he really just did not expect everything that came next
what's also fun, though, is the other girl corrects this fan assumption with what is probably his official profile. and it couldn't be further from his real life and yet, in a weird way, so close. after all his father IS a deeply important man. lies that are close to truths
most likely, this cover story specifically allows him to visit the business and political areas he does for shido and the inner circle of the conspiracy without raising any eyebrows while giving him the right pedigree for the life he leads in general. but it's still ironic
and if you're wondering, well. wouldn't he have a better back up plan if he really messed up that bad? after all if jiminluver8 can google it, shido can too. and well, he did at least consider the back up plan of just wrecking everything.
as for shido, well. akechi was right about some of his assumptions at least: that he wouldn't care about where he came from at all, to the point where he just went "yeah that's probably my son" and left it at that (presumably after reading jiminluver8's profile of him)
i joke but i just find it pretty damning how easily the truth about akechi could be revealed at any time and what that says not only about how ill-prepared and not at all thought out his plan was from the start but the constant stress of that knowledge bearing down on him
anyway this isn't a diss on headcanons or anything. mostly just i think people forget these lines. what i like so much about them is they reveal what a true naive child he was when he first approached shido. that plan was always just a child's dream, with all the mistakes of one
last minute apologies to jiminluver8. i have only seen 4 episodes of run bts and also liked jimin. we are united in our interests i promise.
