So much disinfo around Puerto Rico's elections, and even prominent journalists are parroting it. Much of it stems from the misunderstanding that support for statehood is contained within a single local party, or that support for statehood is inherently right-wing (it isn't).
e.g.: no, there are not hidden or secret boxes full of uncounted ballots. No, no one's excluded observers of any party in the SJ mayoral race count. Yes, a majority of Puerto Ricans support statehood—full stop. What we do about that is up to us, but lying about it won't help.
The biggest lie? That Puerto Rico has options other than statehood or independence if it doesn't want to remain a territory. This is both a moral question for the US ("should we as a nation even keep colonies?") and for PR ("do we want to remain US citizens?")
