a small reminder: yes, 68 million people voted for Trump. but that is not “half” the population of the US. total pop is almost 330 mil. so 68 mil is only 20% of total pop. they are completely outnumbered. and that’s why they are acting out the way the are.
Also, yes I realize different types of people vote for Trump. But his base is fueled by a white politics of grievance. And Gen Z skews more left than any previous generation, and US set to have a non-white majority by 2050, so I imagine this base is terrified.
For those who are wondering, we had about 240 mil eligible voters this election.
Said this in a response below but adding here: Of 240 mil eligible, roughly 28% of those for Trump, 30% for Biden. Important to remember voter suppression and disenfranchisement overwhelmingly impacts Democratic votes, i.e. over 6 mil can't vote due to felony disenfranchisement.
Final thing: I'm not trying to be hopeful or cheerful or anything. The 68 mil number is gross. Just keep seeing people say "half the country voted for Trump" and that's simply not true.
