AAPI results from the 2020 American Election Eve Poll aren't all that surprising. AAPIs are voting for Biden over Trump at a 2:1 ratio. COVID, jobs and health care are top 3 priorities, w/ racial justice coming in 4th. BUT there are some interesting trends to watch. Thread 👇
AAPIs overwhelmingly support social justice causes, challenging narratives that group AAPIs with conservative white Americans. (They do exist, but clearly in minority.) 89% for universal health care: that's an incredibly large bloc.
We also see that about 3 out of 4 Asian Americans back #BlackLivesMatter , perhaps because of AAPIs' own grappling with racial hatred amid the pandemic and the U.S.'s surge in anti-Asian racism.
27% said Trump is hostile toward AAPI voters, vs. 5% for Biden.

Anti-Asian racism wasn't really on the table at presidential debates or in national discussions, despite Trump's inflammatory rhetoric about the "China virus."

@KamalaHarris has addressed the issue more than Biden.
The poll did a survey of ~300 voters in GA-7 specifically. There, AAPIs are also heavily Democratic in their votes. The races are coming down to narrow margins, and AAPI votes could be the count that tips them over to Democrats.
Also notable: Dems and Reps appear to have made contact w/ more AAPIs in GA-7 than nationwide. Clearly, they knew it would be a key district. Parties will need to continue that trend if it wants an edge in swing states.
The fact that so many AAPIs found community orgs informative is also indicative of something else: access to resources, visibility and coalition-building.
I'm gonna ignore the bars on the right bc it narrows in on a specific subset of GA-7 voters BUT if you look at the national sample, AAPIs back protest movements/issues at high rates. That suggests support for more progressive candidates and alienation from Reps.
All this to say: There's a lot happening for AAPIs politically. Trending Dems, deciding swing states, sending the first Asian American + Black woman to the White House, voting in record numbers.

The bottom line: AAPIs are a "What to watch" item.
