The names for this are "alchemy" and "reflexivity." They're concepts worth getting acquainted with. Interestingly, in the Iron Law of Woke Projection way, they are both the chief object of interest of Critical Theory and how Critical Theory has decided to try to rule the world.
No one on Earth better typifies the Nietzschean remark, "Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you" better than Critical Theorists. They became the monsters they fought.
Critical Theorists study real phenomena of persuasion, propaganda, etc., and rightly observe their danger and then, in their arrogance and pride, turn them around and use them in amplified form to achieve their own "righteous" goals, because they know they work.
“Scientific method seeks to understand things as they are, while alchemy seeks to bring about a desired state of affairs. To put it another way, the primary objective of science is truth - that of alchemy, operational success.”
― George Soros, The Alchemy of Finance
What is The Alchemy of Finance about? Glad you asked. Reflexivity and its application to financial markets.
The quote again, slightly differently:
Scientific method seeks to understand things as they are, while Critical Theory seeks to bring about a desired state of affairs. To put it another way, the primary objective of science is truth, that of Critical Theory, operational success.
Is this really their goal, though? Of course it is. Here, Kelly Oliver makes it quite explicit in 1989. Truth is irrelevant. Strategy is all that matters. So we can overthrow the "construction of the absolute authority of recalcitrant nature."
