Democrats did well in this election. We flipped, protected, & expanded territory. I do wish it had been a more of a landslide, but that's a statement on our country. There are huge structural issues with our democracy, as well as both a passion & acceptance of white supremacy.
I think there is more than enough cause to celebrate for Dems. I also think many--including Democrats themselves!--are understating the extent of our victory.
We did really well against an incumbent President & a rough Senate map.
But the road ahead is also going to be tough

It's going to be tough not b/c Democrats are useless. They've done a pretty good job building a gigantic coalition & bringing in the most votes for a candidate in history.
I think the party is doing a fine job. The country needs a heck of a lot of work though.

None of this is to say Dems are perfect. I'm a partisan, but I'm not a hack. However, I do think there are some very real accomplishments that should be recognized. I think the actual source of worry should be how we possibly convince more to join us &/or redistribute our votes.
And, no, the answer to that question is not "minimize Civil rights/identity politics." That answer is both empirically unsupported as a strategy and morally wrong.
