Important observation. Over the past several years, younger journalists have started to imagine themselves telling stories that further a particular agenda. This is driven by many forces: The youngs have been educated at colleges that disparage objective reality. The market has been moving away from traditional news for ages. Their employers' business models rely on niche markets that expect opinions to be validated, not challenged.
Then there's the psychological. They prefer *not* to understand. Understanding is said to be normalizing (the demented, buzzword of our demented era). Understanding leaves open the possibility that one might be forced to shed one's cartoonish ideas about other people.
